Route Matching - why is it important?

Recent experiments at the University of Bristol have shown that full route matching increases the effectiveness of car sharing applications by between 300 and 400%. Most car sharing software will not find all possible matches and some of the matches they do find will turn out to be inaccurate.

In practice this means that an average user will find about 10 promising matches for every 150 users registered on the system. Car sharing software which does not use route matching will usually require over 500 registered users to produce the same number of matches.
