234car - secure and well thought out

The 234car system provides security on a number of levels:

• All transactions to and from the Web server are Secure Socket Layer (SSL) this means any data is encrypted before it is sent.
• User account details are protected by a username and password, set up and created by each individual user, so that only they will be able to access their account details.
• The software acts as a broker and mediator - communicating car share matches between users, thereby concealing the personal information (name and contact details) of users - this information will only be made available with the explicit permission of each user, once they are satisfied with the potential match. Even then only the first name and the work email address will be exchanged. Home address is never stored or revealed.
• All brokered matches are recorded and security measures are in place to monitor use, with a view to detecting and preventing any attempted abuse of the system.
